Delhi Elections : Delhites looking for a revolutionary change
From forfeiting its security deposit in 222 parliamentary constituencies in 1989, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), that champions the cause of the socially underprivileged, has emerged today as the fastest growing political party in India.
Not only is BSP now talked about as the frontrunner in the elections of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous and politically key state, but it stunned everyone by bagging as many as 15 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)
Her remarkable electoral success is based on this miracle of putting aside the centuries-old caste prejudices which prevent a Dalit and a Brahmin from even sharing a meal.
What is noteworthy is that Mayawati began her career, like the SP and the BJP, by encouraging sectarianism, pitting the Dalits against the upper castes. Her slogan at the time was “Tilak, tarazu aur talwar, inko maro joote char”.
The Uttar Pradesh election results may have a positive impact on political tactics at the national level. Mayawati’s Dalit-based Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) focused its attention on forging a Dalit-Brahmin alliance, which brought together the former ‘untouchables’ of Indian society with the upper castes. Now Mayawati’s slogan is
“Hathi nahin Ganesh hai, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh hai” who gave him success in uttar Pradesh.
In Delhi, where the BSP vote share has been rising steadily, the lack of an alliance led to a division of dalit votes between the Congress and the BSP, It may give an advantage to BJP .
Both the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party and the Sonia Gandhi-led Congress were loosing their support base in Uttar Pradesh.
Now in Delhi Assembly Elections who will be held in December 2008.Congress is fear with Sealing ghost,So Delhi Congress is looking at Central Govt. and Central Govt. order to suspend sealing or demolition drive till Dec. 2008, But all of these steps not helpful for Congress.
Delhites are very upset with Congress and Now they are looking for revolutionary change It may be Bhartiya Janata Party or Bahujan Samaj party.
