BSP announced 38 candidates for Delhi Assembly Elections
The BSP announced 38 candidates who will contest from the 70 Assembly seats. In an unprecedented move, the BSP will be contesting all 70 seats, including those in areas where they have not traditionally had a strong vote base.
Delhi Pradesh BSP president Jageram Bhati said the party was no longer looking at coalitions. “We want to provide Delhi an alternative to the BJP or the Congress. We are looking to form the next government,” said Bhati. The make-up of the party’s candidature does not reflect its famed “rainbow” politics. Among the 38 candidates announced today, there are four Brahmins.
Party workers said the candidate list also includes a large number of former BJP and Congress members who have defected to the BSP. Former BJP member Rajinder Gupta, who was also a minister in the Sahib Singh Verma government, will be contesting the Greater Kailash seat on BSP ticket while former Congress member P Goyal will be the candidate from Trinagar.
The BSP has also announced that Surya Kant will be its Lok Sabha candidate from northeast Delhi.
