BSP Prepares for Lok Sabha elections

Even as other major political parties juggle around with political realignments and frantically search for new allies, UP chief minister and BSP president Mayawati has already surged ahead of her political rivals when it comes to poll preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections.

Ms Mayawati, according to party sources, has already finalised more than 70 per cent of the candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in UP. Candidates in states, other than UP, are also in the process of being finalised. The candidates, whose names have been cleared by the party high command, have been asked to remain in the constituencies and build up a rapport with party workers and voters.

“By the first week of June, we hope to finalise the majority of the candidates that the party will be fielding in the Lok Sabha elections. We have already decided upon the constituencies in other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Himanchal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, that we will be contesting and the caste equations in these segments,” According a senior BSP leader.

The BSP president has already sought a list of probable candidates from the party’s heads in various states and the concerned coordinators along with the national general secretary of the BSP, Satish Chandra Misra, have scrutinised the same. The list is now in the process of being approved by Ms Mayawati.

The candidates who have been approved for various constituencies have been asked to prepare a list of volunteers at each polling both in consultation with the party coordinator and then submit the same to the party office for record keeping. The candidates have been directed to ensure the involvement of all castes — “sarvjan” — in preparation of the list.
