EC ready to hold general elections after Aug 31

The Election Commission will be ready to hold the next Lok Sabha elections as per redrawn constituencies any time after August 31, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy said on Friday.

The Election Commission has said that it is ready to conduct the Lok Sabha polls any time after August, according to the redrawn political map.

The delimitation commission has completed the process for the entire country except for the five northeastern states and Jharkhand.

The panel has recommended a redrawing exercise every 10 years to balance the size of constituencies and a law for rotation of reserved seats.
