Delhi Elections : BSP candidate Haji Dilshad Ali filed the nomination from Tihar Jail
BSP candidate from the North-East Parliamentary constituency, Haji Dilshad Ali, who was arrested on Thursday for the attack on a police station in Bhajanpura, filed his nomination on Saturday.
Officials in the DC office said the BSP leader filed the nomination from Tihar Jail. Ali’s wife Shakira Begum submitted the nomination papers after Ali signed them in Tihar Jail on Friday. Ali, incidentally, got bail later in the day.
Unlike other BSP candidates, Ali didn’t have much to declare, with his assets adding up to Rs 16 crore, a modest figure when compared to the assets declared by other BSP candidates in the city. Ali has three cars a Maruti 800, Zen and Wagon R and owns no agricultural land. A substantial part of his assets come from his real estate, which includes a plot worth Rs 6 crore in Noida, in which he has 25% share. He also owns a house in Yamuna Vihar which is valued at Rs 1.25 crore.
Additional sessions judge B S Chumbak on Saturday granted interim bail to Ali on furnishing a personal and surety bond of Rs 10,000 each. The BSP candidate was sent to judicial custody for 14 days after he was arrested on April 16 on the charge of inciting a mob to pelt stones at Bhajanpura police station. The agitators were seeking arrest of two persons in a murder case.
