BJP activists took out a protest over diversion of social sector funds to Commonwealth Games
BJP activists took out a protest march on Parliament Street on Friday over the diversion of social sector funds meant for the uplift of socially disadvantaged groups to finance the 2010 Commonwealth Games’ projects.
Chanting slogans against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the protestors later tried to proceed to her residence.
The police later blocked the path of the rally and opened turned water cannons on the protesters.
Alleging gross financial mismanagement in the CWG projects, HLRN Director Miloon Kothari said: “The authorities, in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query, had confirmed the disturbing disclosure.”
The funds were allocated for the upliftment of the lower-caste and socially disadvantaged groups, namely the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST).
The Central Vigilance Commission has found financial irregularities in several Commonwealth Games related works being carried out by civic and construction agencies.
