BJP’s chief minister hopeful V.K. Malhotra made it clear that his party believed that any Indian was free to live and work in any state of the country.

The BJP decision comes after Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) carried out a string of attacks against north Indians, particularly from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

“This is definitely going to be an issue in the elections,” Malhotra said.. “It will be part of our manifesto and campaign. We respect people from all states and firmly believe that everyone has an equal right to live in the city. For us everyone is equal.”

Polling in Delhi is scheduled for Nov 29 and vote counting will take place Dec. 8.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday released a “charge-sheet” against 10 years of “misrule” by the Congress Government in Delhi. It accused Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of making false promises to the people and not delivering on even what had been promised by the Congress in its previous election manifestos.

Mentioning “the onslaught of price rise, thirsty Delhi, heavy burden of privatisation of power, neglect of the poor, the dirty Yamuna, ruination of industries, chaotic transport, deteriorating health services, dismal state of education, increasing employment and exploitation of workers”, the charge-sheet alleges attempts to destroy the commercial character of Delhi and betrayal of the people living in unauthorised colonies.
